Self-employed or LTD?

Both Self-Employed and LTD have advantages and drawbacks. The main advantage on an LTD is the limitation of liability, which can be a great lifesaver. On the other hand, while LTD’s are more tax efficient they suppose more responsibility. To know which option is best for you, you can contact us and book a consultancy.

Should I register as self-employed?

First, you are required to file a Self Assessment Tax Return if you are registered as self-employed in the UK (including if you are a member of a partnership). You also need a tax return if you want to recover some of the expenses and investments made in the professional interest. Other situations that require completing a Tax Return:

  • You are a company director, pastor (regardless of denomination), or a member of Lloyd's.
  • You have income from investments, savings or properties that exceed certain amounts.
  • You have income from outside the UK.
  • Your annual income exceeds £ 100,000.
  • Apply for tax exemptions for Enterprise Investment Scheme or Venture Capital Trusts.
  • You owe taxes and want to pay them directly. - You owe capital gains taxes.

When do I need to file a tax return?

You have from the 6th of April of every year until the 31st of January of the following year. For example, this year will be: from the 6th of April 2021 until the 31st of January 2022.
